When the antiquated, worn out heating system with in ground oil tanks, which produced hot water for cleaning milk tanks and robotic milking system, was in need of replacement, Tullando Farm choose to make the switch to an AutoPellet modern wood pellet heating system. Some of the factors leading to the decision included the simplicity of the system, the remote monitoring feature, and low maintenance. Being timberland owners as well, this gave Tullando Farm the added benefit of heating with a fuel source of which they are indirectly a part of the production.

Lyme Green Heat installed an AutoPellet 56KW (191,000 but/hr) ASME rated boiler with 14 ton Galvanized Silo for wood pellet storage. Tullando Farm was consuming an average of 3500 gallons fuel oil annually and was receiving a fuel oil delivery bi-weekly. Switching to wood pellets equated to 30 tons pellets annually. With their 14 ton silo they would now only need two wood pellet deliveries a year. With the current fuel oil prices, the switch to wood pellets saved Tullando Farm approximately 25% on annual fuel costs.

Funding for this project came from multiple sources. The Northern Forest Center, provided an incentive of 25% of the installed system cost up to $10,000, along with a rebate from the Public Utilities Commission of 30% of the installed cost up to $50,000, this aided Tullando Farm to significantly reduce the cost of the switch to wood pellets.
